Becky Lynch was absent from WWE television since May 2020 but that was rectified after she made her shocking return at WWE SummerSlam. Lynch was immediately put into the Smackdown Women’s Championship match against Bianca Belair.

Becky Lynch won the match in just 26 seconds with a Manhandle Slam. Fans were understandably quite upset over Lynch squashing Belair.

At the SummerSlam pay-per-view, Drew McIntyre also faced off against Jinder Mahal in a singles match right after the squash. Fans simply couldn’t care less about it.

While speaking to CBS Sports’ Shakiel Mahjouri, Drew McIntyre talked about his SummerSlam match. McIntyre blamed Becky Lynch squashing Bianca Belair for the lackluster match.

I didn’t expect Becky to return. The match prior gave the crowd that reaction, that moment. Then when they expected the lengthy match with Becky and Bianca, it took the wind out of the sales by having the match be 20-something seconds. To walk out after that, the crowd was a bit deflated. It wasn’t quite what I hoped reaction was.

Perhaps it wasn’t what I was hoping for match-wise, but, it gave Drew McIntyre the big win on a big stage, a very dominant win. Even though sometimes I’m like, ‘I want to go out there and have the best match possible and do all the cool near falls and stuff,’ sometimes, you have to be saved from yourself and protect the character and elevate the character. That was about elevating Drew McIntyre and it did do that on a huge stage.”

WWE is currently building towards a feud between Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre. Before that, McIntyre will be squaring off against Madcap Moss at WWE Day 1 on January 1st, 2022. We will have to wait and see if Drew McIntyre will get a title shot or not in the future.
