Jim Ross has done more in the professional wrestling industry over the years than almost anybody. He has been an announcer. He’s been the head of talent relations. Way back when, Good Old JR was even a referee.

One thing he’s never tried is wrestling itself. Ross says he is uncomfortable getting in the ring. He says he respects the trained professionals who wrestle every day too much.

He has been involved in physical segments from time to time. One of them involved caning Matt Striker during an episode of WWE’s version of ECW. He even enjoyed some cold ones with The Sandman after. On recent Grillin’ JR podcast, Ross said he didn’t recall the incident.

“No, I don’t [remember]. But if he saw it, it happened. It’s on tape somewhere. I’ve said this many times. I never liked being a physical participant in any of those bits. Because I felt like it took time away from real wrestlers and real athletes that they could use. But the problem was the minute-by-minutes cheated me out of that, my desired goal. I Always got good minute-by-minute ratings, because people knew they’re gonna see something.

Normally, it was me getting the sh*t beat out of, and sometimes getting color. So I don’t remember that. I’m sure it happen. I’m just trying to figure out what the f*ck I was doing on Sci-Fi and ECW. But that’s another story, I guess.”

Jim Ross has been undergoing treatment for skin cancer recently. The broadcasting legend is expected to make a full recovery. He is scheduled to make his return to the AEW broadcast position at Dynamite: New Year’s Smash on December 29th. Welcome back, JR!
