The IIconics were one of the most popular duos in the WWE women’s division. Their great look and antics in and outside the ring made them excellent heels as the company attempted to build their women’s tag team ranks. In April of 2021, the team was let go as WWE continued to pare down their roster to make room for newer, younger talent.

A huge firestorm of rumors cropped up regarding the future of the team. They ultimately decided to sign with Impact Wrestling. They rebranded as the IInspiration and launched their own podcast. They experienced immediate success, winning the promotion’s Knockouts Tag Team Championship in their first match.

Cassie Lee and Jessie McKay spoke to Fightful’s Sean Sapp at WrestleCade Revenge. They said they’re enjoying their freedom since being released by WWE. They tried to show more of their authentic selves in the form of a podcast, but WWE rejected the idea. Jessie said the company never gave the idea a chance.

“The podcast, we pitched it and it got a big fat no.”

Cassie Lee said that immediately after the team was released, they started working on the show on their own. It didn’t take long to come together. They knew they were sticking together and that a podcast was coming.

“I want to say it was pretty damn quick. It was the day after. Because Jess was like, ‘I want some time. We’re gonna move forward together, but I need some time to get through this.’ I said, ‘Yep. I respect that,’ and I couldn’t f*cking wait.”

The IInspiration have built their own brand on their own terms since leaving WWE. Their podcast has been a great success. Rather than wondering what might have been, Jessie McKay and Cassie Lee are forging their own path and loving it every step of the way.
