CM Punk made his All Elite Wrestling debut a few months ago at AEW Rampage: The First Dance. This was move that created a lot of buzz for the company. Tony Schiavone considered it the greatest debut in pro wrestling history.
CM Punk chose Darby Allin as his first opponent as the two clashed at AEW All Out. It was Punk’s first match since 2014 and many wondered how he’d perform. Thankfully, CM Punk performed as well as fans expected. In the end, CM Punk defeated Darby Allin as well.
While speaking on the Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T talked about CM Punk and Darby Allin’s match. Booker T said that he didn’t understand why CM Punk defeated Darby Allin and that fans are hypocritical for accepting the defeat.
“The first person CM Punk called out was Darby Allin, and he defeated him. Why? Tell me why did you beat Darby Allin. When Darby Allin is considered as one of the pillars of their company. Why beat him? I am simply trying to understand it all. And if that same thing would have happened, vice versa, it will be talked about from a negative perspective.
Don’t be so hypocritical when you see things like that happen. Because me personally, I don’t think Darby Allin should’ve been defeated because there was no reason for Darby to lose the match. CM Punk could have beat all of these guys that he has beaten after Darby Allin, and we would have still have the same thing that we have right now. What has Darby Allin done since CM Punk?”
CM Punk is currently engaged in a feud with MJF while Darby Allin essentially concluded his feud with the Gunn Club. It remains to be seen if Punk and Allin will cross paths again somewhere down the line or not.
