Eddie Kingston made his AEW debut back in July of last year, where he faced off against Cody Rhodes for the TNT Championship. While he was unsuccessful in the match, Kingston impressed many and signed with the company. It seems Kingston has a close relationship with Tony Khan.

Kingston quickly cemented himself as one of the best talkers in AEW as his promos are known to be from the heart and very natural. He is also very passionate when it comes to the pro wrestling world.

For the past couple of weeks, AEW has been building up the feud between Eddie Kingston and CM Punk. The feud further intensified after the scathing back and forth between CM Punk and Eddie Kingston on last week’s episode of AEW Rampage.

While speaking during an AEW Full Gear media call, AEW President Tony Khan talked about his relationship with Eddie Kingston. Khan stated that Kingston is a very close friend of his and proceeded to give him massive props.

“I connected with Eddie Kingston almost immediately. A very, very close friend of mine, and I did not know him until he came in; but I connected with him very quickly and tried to find a spot for him right away too. If you remember, he debuted against Cody. It was a great match. And it was around the time Cody was the TNT champion and he took part in the open challenge.

And Cody came to me with a list of people when he wanted to do the open challenge. And there were many good names on it, but two names he had that he really wanted to work with that have been great were Ricky Starks and Eddie Kingston. I felt really strongly about them both after they had the match with him too. And in both cases, I had something for them.”

Eddie Kingston is set to square off against CM Punk at AEW Full Gear in a match that has become highly personal in such a short time. It remains to be seen who will come out on top in the end.
