Kota Ibushi was thought to be suffering from side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine. He was ill and pulled from some events, but that was not the root of his illness at all.

PW Insider posted a statement from New Japan Pro-Wrestling where they corrected their previous report to make it clear that Kota Ibushi was not ill due to the COVID vaccine. He is currently suffering from aspiration pneumonia, something that has no connection to the COVID vaccine at all.

New Japan Pro-Wrestling deeply apologizes for the concern and inconvenience caused by this news. We appreciate your understanding, and hope you join us in wishing Ibushi the very best in his recovery.

Kota Ibushi also given COVID-19 tests, which he came up negative. He was given extra time to heal since he was pulled from the Summer Struggle shows. He will also miss July 22nd and 23rd in Osaka along with July 24th’s show in Nagoya. It is unclear whether he will take part in July 25th’s Wrestle Grand Slam event.
