Samoa Joe was released from WWE after his stint as announcer on WWE RAW, but his 90-day non-compete clause hasn’t even run up. He’s already back in NXT and rumor is that he will be taking over for William Regal.

PW Insider confirmed previous reports of Samoa Joe coming back to NXT. It was reported that Triple H “snatched him back” as soon as he possibly could. One source even stated that Triple H wanted him back in NXT as “opposed to being elsewhere.”

Triple H was the guy behind bringing Samoa Joe in to NXT. He helped bring Joe into WWE in 2015 and made him an NXT Champion. Then Samoa Joe was called up to the main roster and we all know the rest of that story.

Samoa Joe has been at the WWE Performance Center at least once in recent memory. He was not backstage during NXT TakeOver: In Your House. His last pro wrestling match was in February 2020, and it is believed that he is still medically disqualified from in-ring competition.

The belief is that while he could wrestle at some point, he will focus more on non-wrestling duties.

Right now they are teasing that Joe will replace William Regal on television. We will have to see how things pan out in that situation. Triple H already made it clear that Regal will not leave NXT even if his on-screen role goes away.
