AEW was faced with a very difficult position during the go-home Dynamite before Double or Nothing. Spanish language commentator Willie Urbina mocked Hikaru Shida’s accent in very offensive way. It didn’t take very long at all for him to lose his job within the company.

Following Double or Nothing, Tony Khan took part in a media scrum. He was asked about Willie Urbina’s racist comments and he ha no excuses for it. He obviously wasn’t happy and

“I didn’t think there was any excuse. I was not happy with it, so after I heard what was said and having talked to the other commentators involved about what was said about her.”

Willie Urbina was fired from AEW and the company is moving on without him. This just goes to show that Tony Khan’s company is not going to put up with people using their airwaves to spread any kind of offensive commentary at all.

Excalibur was also caught using racist language from PWG promo years ago. He sat on the sidelines for weeks following that video resurfacing, but he returned. Obviously, this was a much different situation as Willie Urbina said those things while he was with the company.
