Roman Reigns is the current WWE Universal Champion and is one of the top Superstars in the company right now. He has proven himself to be an excellent champion with great character work and in-ring skills.

Roman Reigns turning heel at the WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view last year has truly benefitted him, especially as he is paired with Paul Heyman. His current reign as the WWE Universal Champion has received a lot of praise from fans and Superstars alike.

When the Universal Title debuted in 2016, Finn Balor was the first champion, but he had to relinquish it due to injury the next night. Brock Lesnar would soon become synonymous with the Universal Title as he held the title for a combined 686 days between 2017 to 2019.

While speaking to WWE Now India, Roman Reigns talked about his current reign as the Universal Champion and mentioned how Finn Balor and Brock Lesnar’s reigns with the title didn’t do much to elevate the title. He added that his reign is second to none compared to the rest.

“It’s really put this Universal Championship on the map because when we debuted it a few years ago, it kind of struggled, and the title reigns weren’t what we had hoped for. There were a lot of injuries and then there’s a lot of gripes about once Brock Lesnar, who had a pretty long and illustrious title reign… but he wasn’t quite as active as some of our hardcore and dedicated fans had hoped. But what I’ve done over the past plus 30 weeks I think is second to none, and we’re just gonna continue to add to that legacy and really set this apart from everybody else.”

Roman Reigns will continue to be presented as a strong champion as he continues to elevate the Universal Championship with each passing day. We will have to see who his next opponent will be.

Then again, all of this could be setting the stage for a huge confrontation down the line if the Beast Incarnate returns to WWE.
