Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair had an intense match at WrestleMania last year. They had zero live fans in attendance to watch Flair win the NXT Women’s Title. Ripley was expecting much more after that, but she went back to NXT and spun her wheels for months.

While speaking to Out Of Character, Rhea Ripley addressed that period in her career when a WWE main roster call-up was expected, but it didn’t happen. She thought that RAW or SmackDown would be her destination, but that didn’t come to pass. She still had some unfinished business in NXT as well.

“No one told me anything. I was just kind of going along for the ride, just doing my job. But I had a feeling that I would be going to RAW, Smackdown on the next callups. It just didn’t happen.

“I wasn’t mad about it. I just got more time in NXT, which is something that I loved. I loved being a part of NXT, I loved being around the people there and having matches with those girls. It’s definitely a real home feeling when I’m in NXT. And I’m glad I got a few more months there, a year pretty much, before I got called up.”

Rhea Ripley loved being on NXT, but as RAW Women’s Champion she can do a whole lot more. Now she is set to face Asuka and Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania Backlash on May 16th. We will have to see if her story continues as champion after that.
