Chris Jericho’s appearance on the Broken Skull Sessions raised a lot of eyebrows. Many wondered how much they would address AEW. Steve Austin didn’t shy away from it at all.

During the Broken Skull Sessions, Austin jumped right into AEW talk. At around the six minute mark, Jericho was asked how he arrived in AEW. That sparked a story that we’ve heard before about Le Champion’s decision to join the upstart company.

Jericho said he never thought he would work outside of WWE in the United States, but when the opportunity for AEW came up, he couldn’t pass on it. He said when Tony Khan had the idea for AEW, he didn’t think much of it at first because “you hear it all the time.”

Then Jericho explained that when he spoke with Tony Khan he realized that AEW had the resources to make it work. Khan had the finances and passion. Then they realized that Cody, Hangman Page, Young Bucks, and Kenny Omega all had contracts coming up. He said that gave the company people to build a roster around.

Jericho said that AEW was thinking about running a show on Netflix, Showtime, or some other outlet. Then TNT presented itself as an option and they were off and running.

He also said that AEW isn’t really competition for WWE because “we worry about our own stuff and doing things a different way.”

It was very interesting to see Chris Jericho speak so openly about AEW’s creation on a WWE program.
