Christian Cage made his return to pro wrestling during the 2021 Royal Rumble match, but he didn’t stick around WWE very much longer.

Oral Sessions with Renee Paquette recently had Cage on as a guest. He explained that the deal with AEW came together in rapid fashion. He didn’t know what he was going to do, but he then spoke to Jon Moxley and realized that he might need to explore his options.

Once Christian called Tony Khan, that deal came together in a hurry.

It all happened really quick. I wasn’t sure I was going to go after, and all the talks I had were very cordial [with WWE]. I’m good friends with you, I’m good friends with Jon, and he talked to me and had his opinions and it made me kinda think, ‘OK, maybe I am doing myself a disservice if I don’t at least explore all my options.’ And, at this final stage of my career, I ended up having a conversation with Tony and it just escalated very quickly. It went very fast. Within a week, it was a done deal.”

We’ll have to see how often Christian laces up his boots for AEW. He told Tony Khan that he wants to wrestle on a regular basis. This could be the start of a very exciting chapter in Christian’s career as he has a new roster of old opponents and allies along with new faces to mix it up with.
