Carlito appeared during the 2021 Royal Rumble and he received high marks for his physical condition. He wrestled the next night on RAW, but then he went back home. There is a reason why he departed in the first place.

While speaking to Wrestling Inc, Carlito explained that he got burned out in a way. The tough road schedule and all the time it took resulted in him eventually needing an escape, so he departed from the company.

“The rigors of traveling all the time [took their toll] on my family life. It just felt like I needed an escape. I needed to get away, I needed a break from everything.”

Carlito was released in 2010 after violations of the company’s wellness policy. He’s been keeping the ring rust off and wrestling for his father’s promotion WWC in Puerto Rico.

“Even when I wasn’t wrestling for WWE, I was wrestling for my father’s promotion [World Wrestling Council]. I was on the road all the time, from one airport to the next plane.”

“It sounds great to everyone at first. But when you’re traveling all the time, you start to enjoy your time at home more. But, of course, I wasn’t enjoying my time at home, either. I was just in a dark place and needed to get away. I don’t know if I needed to get away for ten years, though [laughs].”

Carlito showed up when his father Carlos Colon was inducted into the 2014 class of the WWE Hall of Fame. He even made a quip during the ceremony about how he doesn’t get to perform in front of that many people anymore. We’ll have to see if Carlito makes it back to WWE, but he had an impressive short stint this time around that could open the door for more involvement in the future.
