Butch Reed sadly passed away this week, but he was a pro wrestling fan until the end. He also had his eye on AEW star Will Hobbs in a big way.

Reed was apparently a huge fan of Powerhouse Hobbs. After Reed’s passing, his family contacted Will Hobbs to let him know exactly how much seeing him meant to Reed.

Butch Reed still referred to himself as “Hacksaw.” When he saw Hobbs on television, he exclaimed: “That’s the next Hacksaw!” That story was relayed to Hobbs by Reed’s family after his passing according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

After Reed’s death, the Reed family contacted Hobbs, telling him how when he saw Hobbs wrestle he went nuts and would tell his family that Hobbs was the new Hacksaw.

They told Hobbs how much Bruce admired him, and wanted to tell him personally, but he was at this point too sick to talk to him, which is why they did for him after his death.

Tony Khan is also a huge fan of Butch Reed and he reportedly told Hobbs all about Reed. After Butch Reed’s passing, neither of them expected that Powerhouse Hobbs would receive such a lowing message from Hacksaw’s family.
