Jon Moxley just returned to NJPW television where he took out KENTA and the Bullet Club. That surprise attack led to booking Moxley’s first IWGP United States Title defense in a very long time. They also had this plan in motion for a while.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer brought up the fact that Phantasmo was a part of that Moxley angle, and he’s been out of the United States since last month. That piece of information likely means that NJPW taped that Moxley angle a while ago and they have been holding onto it.

“The one thing is that had to have taped in December because Phantasmo is in Japan right now, he hasn’t left to quarantine. The latest he could have left was December 20th, so he hasn’t left. So, this has been in the can for a while, which is kind of a surprise. “

KENTA will get shot at Moxley’s title on February 26th. Odds are that match has not been taped yet, but you also never know what to expect when you’re talking about the Moxley in New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Tony Khan obviously loosened restrictions on Moxley performing for NJPW on U.S. soil. He previously wasn’t allowed to work NJPW events in America. The pandemic presented a very unique circumstance.
