The Undertaker and Vince McMahon are very close, but it wasn’t always that way. In fact, The Chairman saw The Deadman as “run of the mill” at first.

The Joe Rogan Experience recently got The Undertaker for a massive interview. During that time, The Undertaker revealed the first time that Vince McMahon saw him work. He was told to watch the match by Bruce Prichard, but Vince was not impressed.

In July 1990, The Undertaker wrestled Lex Luger during WCW’s Great American Bash pay-per-view. Taker was going as Mean Mark Callous at the time, and Vince McMahon was watching. He was also not impressed at all.

“Vince watches me work and I’m talking to my buddy Bruce [Prichard]. I’m like, ‘Bruce, my hip is jacked.’ He says like, ‘Just go out there, Vince is gonna be watching.’”

“I’m working with a guy by the name Lex Luger. We went out there and did what I could with it. I sucked and I was physically not able really to go the way I could go. Vince was not impressed. He was like, ‘Okay, he’s run of the mill.’”

Vince McMahon obviously changed his mind about The Phenom. The two made a ton of money for decades once they figured out a better character for him. It’s a good thing that Vince McMahon came around on the idea because he was certainly not feeling Mean Mark Callous as a top Superstar at the time.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
