MVP returned to WWE as a surprise entrant in the 2020 Royal Rumble match. He was a producer for the company as well, and the intention was to retire him from in-ring competition. Those plans changed.
When the pandemic struck, the company had no use for MVP as a producer. They were putting on fewer shows, and his services were not needed in that capacity. He continued on television with the Hurt Business and experienced an in-ring rejuvenation for his career.
In a recent interview with BT Sport, Drew McIntyre praised MVP and called the leader of the Hurt Business the actual breakout Superstar of 2020. It should have been an award he was given in 2005, but fifteen years later he’s still doing work.
“I would probably give breakout star of 2020 to MVP. Even though he should have been a breakout star in 2005 or whatever. What he’s been able to do… he just came back for a little role here and a little role there, including the VIP Lounge with me that was just a one-off appearance.”
“Everyone knows how good he is, such a great character and such a great talker, and great in the ring as well. Even he thought, ‘I’m at the end of my career.’ He’s made such an impact and kept getting brought back. Inevitably, what he has been able to do by taking Bobby Lashley to new heights that everyone knew he could get to.”
2021 is already shaping up to be a good year for the Hurt Business. The team is covered in gold, and it took a lot of work getting to that point. We’ll have to see what MVP is able to accomplish this year, but he had a pretty impressive return to WWE in 2020.
