NJPW had to figure out how to make things work during the pandemic. They were able to bring in a few talents from outside the country, but it’s not likely that fans will see a lot of gaijin talent in 2021.

According to Fightful Select, New Japan Pro Wrestling has told “even high profile talent free agents” that they are not bringing in any new names. This is, at least, for the time being.

It is reported that “New Japan passed on one significant US free agent in the summer of 2020.” It was not noted who that “significant” name was, but they left things open to work together in the future.

We’ve even heard that New Japan passed on one significant US free agent in the summer of 2020 at one point, but let them know that the possibility would be there in the future for them to work together.

This is not a long-term plan, but NJPW doesn’t have any intentions of adding foreign talent to their roster right now. New Japan already brought over several foreign talent and filmed episodes of New Japan USA. Those episodes are in the can, and it’s unclear how much footage they have stored away.
