AEW brought Sting into the company, and he’s made regular appearances since then. The Icon returned during Dynamite this week, and he had a very short stay this time around. Sting pointed at Darby Allin, and then he winked at Cody before leaving.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed AEW’s goal for Sting. They are pairing him up with Darby Allin, at first in some respect, as a means to get Allin over. The thinking is that associating Darby Allin with Sting will turn elevate him to a much higher platform.

“The whole thing was obviously to plant the idea that Sting and Darby Allin are together. I mean there were constant shots of Darby Allin while Sting’s out there and Sting’s pointing at Darby Allin and their mentality of this is they are going to use Sting to make Darby Allin into a bigger star.”

Darby Allin drew comparisons to Sting even before it was plausible that The Icon would end up in AEW. Now that Sting is in AEW they are obviously putting those two in a slow-building angle that will hopefully see the current TNT Champion raised to a higher position in the company.
