Retribution has been met with some criticism recently, as have practically every other angle in WWE. The members of Retribution all have reasons to prove people wrong, but they don’t all have the same story.

One fan tweeted out to address the negative response that Retribution received. He said: “why can’t everyone just give it a chance?. the disrespect and blatant dismissive attitude towards all of the talented performers involved is so unwarranted. these are still the same performers who impressed us on the Indys, NXT and beyond for the past few years.” That is actually a great way to look at things, but they didn’t all put in years on the indies.

Mace is Dio Maddin, also known as Brennan Williams, former NFL offensive tackle. Following his 2015 release from the Patriots, he trained to become a pro wrestler under Booker T. He made his debut with Reality of Wrestling on February 1st, 2016, under the ring name of Marcellus Black. WWE signed him on February 11th, 2016,

When Mace read this fan’s response to what this fan wrote about giving Retribution a chance the former NFL player responded “Thank you for respecting my illustrious indy run brother.”

Mustafa Ali, Mia Yim, Dominik Dijakovic, and Shane Thorne all worked the indies prior to coming to WWE. Mace had a different road to Vince McMahon’s company, but his mission is still the same as his stablemates.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
