Goldberg was enjoying his time away from pro wrestling, and then WWE called him for a return. It’s unclear how much AEW was a part of those conversations, but The Elite were rumored to have had plan for him as well.

He hasn’t wrestled since WrestleMania 36, but Goldberg is still under contract with WWE. This prohibits him from making any jump to AEW like some fans have fantasy booked.

While recently speaking to The Pop Culture Show, Goldberg confirmed that he is under WWE contract for another two years. This likely means he signed a three-year deal under his last contract.

“I am contracted with the WWE for the next two years through 2022… ’23? I’ve got two matches per year and I’ve exhausted my commitment quite early this year on April 5 with WrestleMania, under these really weird circumstances, but I’ve got some extremely interesting projects right on the cusp as you guys know in the entertainment business, right now everything is on hold. We’ve got a lot of cool things that people are going to find out about soon.”

“My WWE commitment is still going strong. I’m 53, I never would have imagined it, especially making fun of [Ric] Flair for doing it in his early forties.”

He really wanted that match against Roman Reigns. Goldberg also drew special focus to the spear vs spear dynamic. We’ll have to see if that’s a possibility down the line. It didn’t happen at WrestleMania 36, but it’s still a match that could draw real money.

Goldberg didn’t confirm that he will be back in the ring, but it takes him a few months to get prepared. Vince McMahon can apparently call him for the next two years if he needs Goldberg’s boost.
