AJ Styles was brought over to RAW alongside Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows to form the OC and be a heel faction. They were supposed to put over new babyfaces in the process, but after a WrestleMania program with The Undertaker that stable is no more.

Gallows and Anderson were both released from their large WWE contracts on April 15. This was a part of huge company-wide cuts.

AJ Styles was then moved back over to SmackDown without really fulfilling his purpose on RAW as Dave Meltzer explained during Wrestling Observer Radio.

“AJ was there to make new babyfaces, that was what he was there for, How many new babyfaces did he make? None. He didn’t even lose on the way out. Well, he lost to The Undertaker but that didn’t but that does nobody any good.”

“My point is that every one of these guys from Ricochet to Cedric Alexander to Humberto Carrillo – every single one of them was supposed to be in a big feud with AJ where they would get over and they would win the title and not one of them did.”

We’ll have to see what AJ Styles does with his return to SmackDown. He seems to be in a great spot in the IC Title tournament.

Another match against The Undertaker could very well be down the line as well. Hopefully, AJ Styles will still be able to put over some younger talent along the way.
