AEW Dynamite Results – April 15, 2020

Welcome to Ringside News’ live results coverage for AEW Dynamite.

On one of the craziest and most saddening days in the wrestling world for some time, we turn our focus to the other big game in town. Tonight AEW has one of its biggest matches yet, with Jon Moxley facing Jake Hager in a No Holds Barred match for the AEW Championship.

The TNT Championship tournament continues tonight, with Lance Archer facing Colt Cabana in a first round match. Elsewhere, Kip Sabian faces Chuck Taylor, Sammy Guevara battles Sugar D, and Shawn Spears and Britt Baker will both be in action but we don’t know their opponents yet.

And that’s all we know of this week’s AEW Dynamite. It should be a fun show to distract us from the madness. Follow along here and enjoy!

AEW Dynamite opens with Chris Jericho and Tony Schiavone on commentary, running down the card for tonight’s show.

We get a video package for Colt Cabana, in which he says he felt the AEW brass and a section of the fans didn’t expect much of him when he joined. He says Lance Archer has been dominant in Japan for a long time and they’re happy to have him in AEW, but he’s been dominant in Japan, India, England, Germany, and all over the world. He says he’s not looking past Archer, he’s a big dude, but he’s beaten big dudes. He says his goal is to hold the TNT Championship and it’s all he’s thinking about.

TNT Championship Tournament

Lance Archer Vs. Colt Cabana

Archer punches Cabana before the match begins. Colt fires back and hits Lance, ducks a clothesline and tees off with some right hands. Archer comes back with a clothesline, but Cabana pulls the top rope down and he flies over onto the apron. Cabana runs at Archer but stops prematurely, then punches him off the apron.

Archer gets angry on the outside and kicks the barricade, then slides back in and Cabana slides out. They both get in the ring and Colt hits a lariat and a punch, then takes the wrist of Archer. The Murderhawk whips Colt to the corner but he misses a splash in the corner. Cabana jumps at Archer but gets caught and hit with a half-nelson slam.

Archer slaps Cabana and rakes his eyes. Archer slams Colt into the turnbuckles but Colt ducks a chop and slaps him a few times but Lance no-sells them. Archer hits a stiff short-arm lariat, then drills Colt with forearms to the chest. Archer chops the chest, punches him, and squishes his face with a knee.

Colt punches Archer and nothing happens, then the Murderhawk asks for another before retaliating with a thunderous right hand. Archer hits a spinning tope from the middle rope and scores a two-count. Archer leaves the ring as we head to the break.

Back live and Archer is still in charge of Colt, beating him in the corner. Lance goes to the middle rope and jumps for a splash but Cabana rolls out of the way. Lance runs at Colt but gets kicked back, then hit with a tilt-a-whirl headscissors.

Cabana runs and hits a hip attack in the corner. Cabana takes to the middle rope and hits a splash for a two-count. Colt hits some measured punches and Archer smiles. Colt hits the Bionic Elbow but Arhcer hits the ropes and comes right back with a Pounce. Archer hits a Chokeslam, followed by The Blackout for the win.

Winner: Lance Archer

Archer progresses to Round 2 of the TNT Championship tournament.

We see Dr. Britt Baker at work and she gives us a rundown on the rules of being a role model: always fight fair. She says Hikaru Shida did not fight fair last week when she broke her nose. But she’ll show how to fight fair tonight.

UFC’s resident enclycopedia, Ariel Helwani, appears on a video and says he predicts his fellow MMA guy Jake Hager to beat Jon Moxley tonight. Helwani says Hager has done it all and he’ll become Champion tonight. Tazz appears next and he says Moxley needs to steer clear of the mat and make it a street fight, in which case Mox will retain.

The match begins and Baker drops Golden with a superkick right away. Baker puts Golden on the middle rope and taunts her, then puts her teeth over the rope and stomps her down.

A commercial airs for AEW Double or Nothing on May 23rd.

We see a video of The Inner Circle, called The Bubbly Bunch, and it’s them at home on FaceTime to each other talking trash about The Elite.

Sammy Guevara Vs. Suge D

The bell rings and Suge D, or Pineapple Pete as Jericho calls him, dances. Sammy takes his back and slams him down, then spins around on him and poses. Guevara takes a headlock and Suge tries to shoot him off but Sammy holds on.

D takes a wrist lock, then does a dance before hitting a springboard arm drag. More dancing but Sammy clobbers him with a running knee. Sammy knocks Suge from the ring and follows after, hitting him a dew times, then getting him back inside for a vertical suplex. Sammy kicks Suge against the ropes, then lifts him up and squats before hitting a Samoan drop for a two-count.

Sammy kicks D onto his back, then puts him agains the ropes and lights up his chest. Suge counters an Irish whip by sitting down, then rolls-up Guevara for a two-count. Sammy hits a lariat, then connects with a running high knee, followed by the Torture Knee for the win.

Winner: Sammy Guevara

After the match Sammy gets on the horn and says it was light work for the Spanish God. He says he could go for a few more rounds but allow him to spoil what happens in the TNT tournament. He says he will beat the $hit out of Darby Allin in the first round. Sammy wants to give a demonstration and stomps the face of Suge until Darby runs out and Guevara flees.
