The Royal Rumble kickoff show didn’t include a title change before the Royal Rumble. It very well could have as it is the plan for Humberto Carrillo to become champion.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed the fact that WWE had planned for Humberto Carrillo to win the US Title. That didn’t happen yet, but this program is far from over.

“You know the original booking was that Carrillo was gonna become US Champion. Things kept getting in the way of that you know he was originally supposed to win it from AJ, but you know just things happened and things changed and that’s how things happen and this was supposed to be a lengthy program so they just didn’t want to change the title. Again, I don’t know if you’re booking this, if you’re relegating this match to the preshow even though it’s at the Royal Rumble the reaction might not be good so you’re better off doing it at a television taping.”

Humberto Carrillo has a bright future in WWE and his feud with Andrade could really help elevate both Superstars. Let’s see how WWE continues to build this rivalry as they continue on the road to WrestleMania.
