SCU is in the finals of the AEW World Tag Team Tournament, but they couldn’t have done it without Scorpio Sky stepping in. Christopher Daniels was jumped by the Lucha Bros and Sky needed to fill his spot.

The build for this storyline actually started during the debut of AEW Dynamite and Being The Elite before that. Scorpio Sky announced that he would be stepping aside to let the veterans handle things. Then Daniels, SCU’s most tenured member went down.

Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that putting Scorpio Sky in this role was meant to build him. He came off as a real hero and was able to win the first round for his team as he lost both shoes in the process.

Christopher Daniels injury angle and the tag match which was meant to build Scorpio Sky, and that ended up happening before he largest audience.

AEW did a couple of things that made this segment work so well. From Sky grabbing tape from the trainer’s bag to tape up his wrists as he prepared for the match to the way this match was built. Everything seemed to work out well and for the best as SCU’s big win was actually swapped in to play in front of an even larger audience.
