FOX paid $1 billion for five years of WWE Friday Night SmackDown. They are apparently going to stick with WWE for the long haul despite already slumping ratings.

When FOX’s SmackDown deal was first breached, there was a thought that SmackDown might have Fridays on FOX as short term plan.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed SmackDown’s rating last week of 2.925 million viewers for the first hour and 2.872 million in the second half. He said that FOX isn’t worrying about the ratings decrease and doesn’t plan on pulling the plug.

“FOX will be fine with it, even at that number FOX will be fine with it for a long, long time. I mean they’re gonna have to get way lower before FOX starts panicking. I think people think FOX is gonna pull it, I mean that’s not happening — that may never happen, but it’s not gonna happen any time soon no matter what.”

There is a lot going on behind the scenes that fans might not be privy to. SmackDown might have pulled one million less viewers from their first to second episode of Friday Night SmackDown, but apparently, FOX isn’t worrying yet.
