Eric Bischoff and Paul Heyman have big new roles in WWE as Executive Directors of SmackDown and Raw. This decision was a big surprise for a lot of people and some weren’t very happy about it, but WWE had their reasons.

Brad Shepard reports that WWE made this change primarily because of WWE’s impending deal with Fox. They need someone who can navigate those waters and Eric Bischoff is very knowledgeable in doing just that.

AEW is also a very good reason to implement this change. There could be some need for their expertise during the impending pro wrestling war that is soon to come.

“I spoke with a source in #WWE about Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff being named Executive Directors. Fox (the biggest reason) and #AEW both led to this decision by Vince McMahon. Two meetings were scheduled with each of them separately, and then one together.

After a contract negotiation, they accepted the offer on Tuesday evening. I’m told they are going to have significant powers over both producers and writers.”

WWE didn’t have Eric Bischoff and Paul Heyman signed for very long at all before making the announcement official. Now we will just have to sit back and see what changes about WWE’s product, if anything.

Because as exciting as this new change might be, it is also important to remember that Vince McMahon is still in control.
