Lillian Garcia welcomes Lacey Evans to the show.

Evans informs that she did not watch wrestling growing up. She was in the Marines and met someone who wrestled and she attended a show. She loved it right away and started training. One week after seeing a wrestling match for the first time she wrestled in the main event of an indie show.

She was a wrestler in high school so she had an athletic background, and as a Marine she works hard to get what she wants. After attending her first show she trained every day for a week and had a match the following week, and ever since then she’s been in love with the business.

Evans says her childhood was very business-like. She didn’t watch television or movies, and she was raised very strict. This made her grow up very quick. She has never been to a club or a party; her childhood revolved around school, sports, work and then the Marines.

She notes that joining WWE has been a wonderful thing for her because it has finally allowed her to relax and live in a fantasy world for the first time in her life.

She points out that her parents struggled with drug and alcohol abuse, but it’s hard for her to blame them because they struggled a lot throughout life. She has been focused on breaking that lifestyle and she refuses to alter her mindset in any way. She has never done drugs and she doesn’t drink alcohol.

Her mother is clean and fighting the good fight every day, but her father passed way from drug and alcohol abuse and depression. That motivates her to pick herself up every day, and she urges children in the position that she was in to fight through it and get yourself out of that situation.

She informs that she still works through her own depression issues, but the Marines really helped her with that. She notes that dealing with depression takes a lot of work, and you can’t take a day off. She believes that some people get so bogged down by the depression that they feel that they can’t deal with it.

When she thought about trying out for WWE she googled everything about Divas and didn’t think there was a fit for her at all. She was on a SWAT team in the Marines and owned her own construction company, yet she knew she had to take the opportunity to work for WWE because of the platform it would give her to talk to young children.

She has been with her husband since she was 15 and they have a 6-year old daughter. Her husband and daughter travel most places with her as she bought a camper to live in on the road. She refuses to leave her baby like she was left by her parents as a young child.

Other than joining WWE for the platform it provides, Garcia wonders if Evans has any goals. Evans says she wants a garden, a kitchen to cook in and lots of children. If she can accomplish that she’ll be happy. She thinks this is her way of making up for the things she dealt with as a child.

She informs that it was Ted Dibiase who got her a tryout with WWE. She drove herself to the tryout and she was intimidated as soon as she walked into the building due to the beautiful women who were there to tryout with her.

She went to sneak out of a back door before anyone could notice she was there, but when she opened the door all the male Superstars started walking in. They thought she was simply opening the door for them. She knew then that she had been seen, so she decided to stay.

A few months after her tryout she received a call and was offered a WWE contract. She decided to pursue a career in wrestling because she felt like she was capable of so much more than just being a Marine officer and a construction company owner.

She informs that she was in the Marines for 8 years and it was the best thing she’s ever done. She eventually joined the SWAT team and she loved it, but her husband was stressed out by it because he couldn’t protect her there, and she consistently thought about her young daughter so a change was made.

Evans informs that “Lacey Evans” is actually her sister’s name in real life, and after WWE suggested she use it she called her sister and got her permission. She loves 1940s-1950s culture, and wanted to be a southern belle. She wants to prove that women can be classy and look good and still kick your ass.

Evans still doesn’t know if she’s officially on RAW or Smackdown, and she’s currently appearing on both shows. She’s a bit nervous because she doesn’t know the creative direction, but she’s very blessed to be in the situation she’s in.

She notes that she’s nervous before wrestling shows, and was nervous about debuting at this year’s Royal Rumble, but it’s a different kind of nervous than what she’s accustomed to. Now she’s just worried about slipping or falling, instead of worrying about bullets.

That sums up this week’s episode of Chasing Glory. You can listen to the show yourself anytime here, and I’ll catch ya next week for another recap!
