The Elimination Chamber saw the breakup of a Superstar and his hypeman far too soon, but WWE had their reasons.
Bobby Lashley’s re-entry in the WWE Universe wasn’t met with the best results starting out as a babyface. Then WWE turned Lashley heel with the help of Lio Rush and things started to work out for The Big Man. He became IC Champion, but that ended at Elimination Chamber.
After Finn Balor won the IC Title in a handicap match by pinning Lio Rush, The All Mighty took out his frustrations on The Man Of The Hour. Lashley left Lio on the mat only to return during Baron Corbin and Braun Strowman’s match without Lio by his side.
Dave Meltzer explained during Wrestling Observer Radio why WWE made a decision to break Bobby and his hypeman up.
“I think the deal is because obviously because it looked like he turned, but it’s very clear that he didn’t because he did that run-in later with Baron Corbin and Drew McIntyre that those three guys are going to be a heel group.”
The idea is that Bobby Lashley doesn’t need Lio Rush if he is going to be in a heel stable. So it looks like Rush could be headed back to 205 Live unless he can find another Superstar to hype-up on RAW.
