Welcome to Ringside News’ coverage of WWE Raw for January 14th!

Our main event tonight is a huge Triple Threat Match for the Intercontinental Championship; Dean Ambrose Vs. Seth Rollins Vs. Bobby Lashley. These three have crossed paths as of late – well more so Rollins with both the heels – and tonight they square-off in a big three way match. Could we see Ambrose lose his belt? Or will he retain by hook or crook?

We will hear from Braun Strowman tonight, ahead of his showdown with Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble. Last week Braun and Brock came face-to-face, sort of, when Lesnar walked around the ring in an attempt to intimidate the monster. The reality is, Braun isn’t cleared to compete quite yet, and they don’t want to risk injuring him before the Rumble, but that severely limits the build for this match. Regardless, Brock isn’t at tonight’s show.

Elsewhere on tonight’s WWE Raw, we learn more entrants for the Royal Rumble match, The Revival continue to claim there is a conspiracy against them, and Sasha Banks teams with Ronda Rousey to face Nia Jax and Tamina, can they co-exist? Let us know what you’re excited to see by downloading the Ringside News app, and following us on Instagram. Enjoy the show!

Monday Night Raw

The show opens with the Chairman of WWE, Vince McMahon arriving at the arena in a limousine. Vince instructs his driver to shine a spot on the back of the vehicle before strutting off.

We go live to the arena and out comes the Monster Among Men, Braun Strowman! The Monster makes his way to the ring and the fans chant “Get These Hands!”

Strowman says, whether he would admit it or not, Brock Lesnar is afraid of him. He says when he had the Money In The Bank briefcase, Brock had Baron Corbin get between them to screw him over. Well, now he’s all healed-up and Corbin is no more, meaning Brock’s time is up. Strowman says he will get his the Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble, while the only thing Brock will get is his hands!

Strowman leads the crowd in a chant but then he is interrupted by Baron Corbin. The former GM says he may not run the show anymore but… Strowman then interrupts him and reminds everyone that Corbin was fired. Strowman then gets the fans to chant it at him. Corbin says he will happily stand up here all night to say what he has to say. Corbin tells Braun to stop lying to the people, because they believe in him and he keeps letting them down. Corbin says he and Braun know that the Monster cannot beat Brock. Meanwhile he plans on winning the Royal Rumble match and, doing something Strowman never will: headlining WrestleMania!

Strowman jumps out of the ring and runs towards Corbin, who then runs backstage. Strowman goes backstage after him and Sunil Singh gets in his way, so Braun throws him over a table. Strowman wanders off looking for Corbin.

The camera lingers for a second, then we hear the strum of a guitar. Elias is standing by some boxes and he starts playing a little song. Strowman then appears beside him and Elias sings that Corbin went into the parking lot, into Vince’s limo. Strowman makes a beeline for the limo and pulls the driver out by the neck and throws him. He then lifts a pipe and smashes the window, before ripping the door right off. Corbin escapes the other side and runs off.

Before Strowman can chase him however, we see Vince McMahon standing, looking pissed. Strowman and Vince stare at each other as we head to the break.

*Commercial Break*

We go backstage to see Strowman trying to put the door back on the limo, but it falls off. McMahon says Strowman is a wrecking ball. He tells him he will be fined $100,000 for damages! Strowman is furious and says this piece of crap is not worth it. McMahon says if he’s going to raise his voice, if he’s going to behave like this, his Universal Championship match is cancelled. In fact, that’s exactly what it is. McMahon walks off, leaving Strowman furious. He turns to the limo and decides to flip it over like it’s nothing!

We go live to the arena where out comes the WWE Women’s Champion, Ronda Rousey, followed by her partner tonight, Sasha Banks! They will face off at the Royal Rumble, but tonight they take on Tamina and Jax.

*Commercial Break*

We return to see Braun Strowman being escorted from the building with several guards. As he walks out the doors, Baron Corbin emerges from a nearby room, grinning ear-to-ear.

Ronda Rousey & Sasha Banks Vs. Nia Jax & Tamina

We start things off with Sasha and Nia. They circle each other but then Nia says she doesn’t want Sasha, she wants Nia Jax. Sasha feigns tagging in Rousey, but instead turns and punches Jax. Sasha hits the ropes and comes back with a hurricanrana to Jax! Banks knocks her to the corner and then catches her with a springboard arm-drag… except Nia doesn’t fall. Nia lifts her up and tries to throw her but Sasha climbs onto Nia’s back with a sleeper. Jax slams Sasha to try and get her off.

Banks goes to the apron, then hits a middle-rope bulldog to Jax for a two count. Banks then tags Ronda Rousey to a decent reaction. Nia immediately takes the Champion to the corner and drops her. Tamina is tagged in and Rousey almost immediately takes her down into the armbar but Nia pulls Tamina out of the ring. The heels regroup on the outside. Tamina feigns getting back into the ring. The heels are still walking around the ring but then Banks comes flying off the apron with a meteora to Jax.

*Commercial Break*

We return to see Sasha Banks being held in a bearhug by Jax. Sasha gets out and looks for a second hurricanrana but Nia reverses it into a powerbomb. Jax follows-up with a cannonball to Banks, before applying a chicken wing of sorts. As the move is in action, we take a break to see a trailer for Glass. So commercials in between commercials now? O.K.

We’re back with the wrestling show, in time to see Tamina tag in and stomp down Sasha in the corner. Tamina looks for a body slam but Banks rolls down her back for a pin attempt to no avail. Banks looks to tag Rousey but can’t reach, then Tamina punches Rousey off the apron. After a kerfuffle in which Rousey attempted to storm the ring, Tamina inadvertently speared Nia off the apron! Banks took advantage of the confusion to lock-in the Bank Statement and Tamina taps!

Winners: Sasha Banks & Ronda Rousey

After the match Charly Caruso comes in and interviews the ladies. Rousey says a victory of Sasha will be her greatest accomplishment as Champion. Banks says she’s happy Rousey already considers her on a list of achievements. Rousey says that’s not what she meant, she just meant that she will show Sasha the utmost respect by making her tap out. Sasha says that Ronda isn’t the only woman around here that can make people tap out, just as Nia or Tamina. Banks says she will show Ronda how to lose with some class at Royal Rumble. Ronda gets angry and says she can keep the title of “classiest loser”. Sasha gets angry in response and says that she didn’t call out Ronda, it was the other way around. Sasha says she will make Ronda tap out and leaves. Ronda chases after her and tries to apologise but Banks is having none of it.

Backstage, we see a long line of talents outside Vince McMahon’s office, waiting for some one-on-one time. The door opens and out steps Jerry Lawler to a big reaction. The No Way Jose conga line goes past.

*Commercial Break*

We’re back and Ronda, Sasha, Bayley, and Nattie are arguing backstage. Sasha and Ronda storm off, then Nattie and Bayley begin arguing amongst each other. The Riott Squad approach and butt their noses in, before challenging Natalya and Bayley to a match, if they can find a third partner. They accept.

Lucha House Party makes its way to the ring, pinata’s in hand. The Revival are their opponents. Dash and Dawson say that Lucha House Party saw them get screwed in their title match last week, and tonight they will pay for not speaking up.

The Revival Vs. Lucha House Party

Kalisto and Gran Metalik are representing the Lucha’s tonight, and it’s Kalisto starting things off against Dash Wilder.

Wilder takes Kalisto down and mocks him. Kalisto starts to make a comeback and takes Wilder down with a nice springboard arm drag. Kalisto and Metalik hit Wilder with a double-team splash for a two count. Dorado tags back in, but Dawson comes in and takes him down.

Mid-match, we suddenly cut backstage to Dasha Fuentes outside of Vince McMahon’s office. Apollo Crews is there and he says everyone is lined-up to get a shot at Brock Lesnar. Curt Hawkins then appears, as does EC3. Then The B-Team appear and say the B stands for Brock. Dasha asks which one of them wants to face Brock, to which they look like they didn’t know that was the purpose of the line. Finally, Heath Slater and Rhyno approach her and Slater says he doesn’t want to face Lesnar, because he has kids.

We go back to the tag match – these mid-match cutaways are not the answer to Raw’s poor ratings, they’re indicative of why. Metalik takes Dash and Dawson down with some nice aerial offense. The heels start to make a comeback. Dawson DDT’s Metalik and covers. Metalik gets his foot on the bottom rope, but Wilder pushes it off and the referee counts three!

Winners: The Revival

Lucha House Party are frustrated after the match, they were robbed. The commentators debate if it was a wrong or not.

We’re backstage with Dasha once again and this time Vince emerges from the office. He asks her if she wants a scoop, then says he is headed to the ring to tell everyone who is facing Lesnar.

*Commercial Break*

Back live and out comes Vinny Mac! Before Vince can say a word however, he’s interrupted by none other than the 16X World Champion, John Cena!

Cena says we all know Vince just lost a World Title match on the Road to WrestleMania. He says he knows Vince is here to tell someone to step-up. 20 years ago, Steve Austin walked out. The Rock walked out. Brock Lesnar walked out. He didn’t know what to do, so he turned to his locker room and asked someone to step-up.

Cena says he stepped-up to Vince McMahon and asked for an opportunity, saying he would never let him down. So Vince gave him that chance, and he has never let him down. He’s missed birthdays, weddings, and funerals, for this. But this isn’t about pity, because being here isn’t about putting your life on hold, it’s about making this your life and loving every second. So he’s asking Vince for another chance. Because he will walk into the Royal Rumble and make history by winning the Universal Championship and becoming the 17x time Champion. And he can do that because he has something no-one in the back has; ruthless aggression.

Once again, before Vince can speak, he is interrupted by Drew McIntyre. Drew makes his way to the ring, saying he doesn’t care what movie Cena is in, or what book he’s writing. But how dare you walk in here and say you still have ruthless aggression? He steps up to Vince and tells him this is what ruthless aggression looks like. He turns back to Cena and tells him his time is up, so leave like Austin, Rock, or Lesnar.

Baron Corbin then makes his way out, saying his life was threatened earlier tonight. He says he doesn’t have a lawyer on speed-dial, but he knows that what is best for business, is him getting a shot at Lesnar.

Finn Balor comes out next, and says he is tired of being left out of these conversations. All the men in the ring have great accomplishments, but he’s the only one who has been a WWE Universal Champion. Vince says Balor is a tremendous athlete, with incredible agility, but against Lesnar? “Against all this beef?” Vince doesn’t think Balor is big enough. Finn says he knows Vince doesn’t believe in him, never has. So why doesn’t he just show him that he can do it? Balor then turns and hits Corbin, while McIntyre hits Cena. McIntyre then takes out Balor with a Claymore Kick, before clocking Cena with one as well. McIntyre is sitting on one knee, staring at the Chairman. Vince says he likes this. He likes it a lot. He asks the fans if they want to see more, then books a Fatal 4-Way tonight, with the winner facing Brock at Royal Rumble!

Later tonight, Rollins Vs. Ambrose Vs. Lashley, with the Intercontinental Championship on the line, but up next it’s six-woman tag team action!

*Commercial Break*

Vince is walking backstage when Jinder Mahal approaches him. Mahal says it’s an honour to be in Vince’s presence, and says his suit is fantastic. However, he’s offended that he wasn’t considered as part of tonight’s Fatal 4-Way. He lists his accomplishments. Vince asks if he thinks the fans want to see him in the match. Mahal says he does think so, and asks for a shot. Vince tells him to choose one of the four men in the match, and, if he can beat one of them tonight, he will take their place in the Fatal 4-Way.

Nikki Cross is the partner of Bayley and Natalya for the six-woman tag match. According to the announcers, Cross and the other newcomers from NXT will be on Raw and SmackDown Live for a while.

The Riott Squad Vs. Bayley, Natalya, & Nikki Cross

The match starts with Bayley and Sarah Logan, while the fans chant “NXT”. Cross is running manic up and down the apron, so Bayley decides to tag her in and the fans are happy about that. Cross runs at Logan and leaps onto her. She dropkicks Logan, who then tags Liv Morgan.

Cross knocks Morgan down. So Ruby Riott comes into the ring along with Logan. Bayley and Nattie come in but Cross tells them to leave, she wants to play and slaps herself. Cross tackles Ruby and the brawl goes out of the ring. Bayley and Natalya help her out with double dropkicks to Logan and Morgan. Meanwhile, Ruby tries to slide back into the ring, but Cross drags her back out and traps her in the apron, where she pounds her with forearms. The crowd are enjoying Cross as we head to the break.

*Commercial Break*

We return to see Sarah Logan in control of Bayley. The heel knocks The Hugger out of the ring with a knee to the back. As Bayley gets back in, Morgan gets the tag and hits her with a facebuster from the middle rope for a two count.

The Riott Squad keeps Bayley isolated with quick tags, while she tries to make the tag to Nattie. Finally, Bayley is able to drop Logan’s head onto the top turnbuckle so she can make the tag to Natalya.

Nattie comes in hot and gets a two count on Logan with a dropkick and a discus clothesline. Bayley hits a knee to the head of Riott, who then stumbles to her corner and tags Liv. Morgan hits a hurricanrana to Bayley and goes for the pin but Cross breaks it up, before tagging herself in, and taking Morgan down. Cross tags Bayley so she can hit an elbow drop for the pinfall!

Winners: Natalya, Cross, & Bayley

We see Finn Balor walking backstage and he stops to look at Lacey Evans, talking to Dana Brooke. Jinder Mahal makes his entrance, flanked by Samir Singh.

*Commercial Break*

Dean Ambrose is standing backstage and cuts a promo about right and wrong. He says what’s wrong is him having to defend his Championship against two different opponents. He says it’s fine though, because no-one will take his Championship.

Finn Balor Vs. Jinder Mahal W/Samir Singh

As Finn is making his entrance, he’s posing on the apron, when Samir Singh pushes him off and to the floor. Jinder takes advantage of the ambush and attacks Finn on the outside – the match has not started yet. Mahal throws Finn into the barricade, then another, then into the LED apron, before tossing him into the ring. Mahal instructs the referee to ring the bell but the ref checks on Finn first. He waits for Balor to get up and say he’s good to go.

The match is underway and Mahal kicks Balor in the head for a two count. Mahal lifts Finn and then floors him with a right hand. Mahal hits Finn in the side of the head several times, before applying a terrible chinlock. Balor fights to his feet but Mahal knees him in the gut. Balor whips Mahal off the ropes, and connects with a dropkick. Mahal rolls to the apron and Finn joins him there. Balor kicks Jinder from the apron, and looks for the soccer kick but Mahal grabs the leg and slams him down.

*Commercial Break*

Back from the break and Jinder is dropping several rope-assisted knees onto Finn. He lifts the Irishman and whips him hard into the turnbuckles, before applying a rear chinlock again. Mahal lifts Finn for a bodyslam but Finn reverses it into a crossbody pin but Mahal quickly gets out. Mahal goes right back to the submission.

Finn starts to fight to his feet and drops Jinder with a jawbreaker. Balor connects with an overhead kick and both men are down. Balor hits two flying forearms, followed by a double stomp to the chest. He takes to the corner and looks for the slingblade but Mahal shrugs him off. Finn ducks Jinder and dropkicks Samir off the apron, before knocking Mahal out and hitting a tope onto both men.

Balor gets Mahal back in the ring, hits the slingblade, followed by the front dropkick, and finishes things off with the Coup de Grace!

Winner: Finn Balor

We see replays of Finn’s comeback and victory as he recuperates in the ring. Finn will definitely be in tonight’s Fatal 4-Way match!

Up next though, the Intercontinental Championship Triple Threat!

We get a selfie promo from Lio Rush. He says Lashley has learned to step-up over the past few weeks, and tonight Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose will suffer because of it. Rush says Lashley is the man everyone needs as IC Champion, because he’s a fighter. He will become Intercontinental Champion whether you like it or not.

The Intercontinental Champion, Dean Ambrose makes his entrance. During which, Renee Young and Corey Graves argue whether or not Lashley deserves a shot.

*Commercial Break*

Charly Caruso interviews Seth Rollins backstage before his entrance, and he says he’ll have no problem kicking Dean Ambrose’s teeth down his throat. Last October, Ambrose betrayed six years of friendship with him and Roman Reigns. As for Bobby Lashley, physique will only get you so far. What matters is what you do bell to bell. No one on this planet can do what Rollins can bell to bell. Rollins says he will do what he does every night: lay it all on the line, and take back his Intercontinental Championship.

WWE Intercontinental Championship

Triple Threat Match

(C) Dean Ambrose Vs. Seth Rollins Vs. Bobby Lashley W/Lio Rush

We get ring introductions for all three men before things get underway.

Ambrose tries to convince Rollins to work together to take out Lashley, but Seth tosses him from the ring instead. Rollins takes Lashley out and hits a plancha. Ambrose comes flying back inside and attacks, but Rollins cuts him off. Rollins gets him in the ring and hits a cross-body block off the top rope for a two count. Lashley runs in, but Rollins stops him. Ambrose attacks Rollins from behind. Lashley and Ambrose join forces to attack Rollins. They take turns attacking Rollins. Lashley hits a suplex and covers, but Ambrose breaks it up.

Lashley isn’t happy but Ambrose tells him to relax, then holds Rollins up for Bobby to punch. Lashley then holds Rollins up for Ambrose to kick him. Ambrose and Lashley continue to attack the midsection of Rollins. Rollins sidesteps an avalanche from Lashley and fights back. Lashley then slams Rollins with a mighty spinebuster. Ambrose then knocks Lashley out of the ring. Rollins catches Ambrose with an inside cradle for a two count. Rollins knocks Ambrose out of the ring.

Rollins then hits Ambrose and Lashley with a suicide dive. Lio Rush gets on the apron and Rollins tries to attack, but Rush evades him. Rush flips onto the floor, so Rollins chases him, but he runs rights into Lashley, who gives Rollins a spinebuster on the floor! Lashley follows up with a belly-to-belly suplex on Ambrose on the floor! Lashley is in control!

*Commercial Break*

We return to see Lashley still in control of Rollins in the ring. Ambrose is fine but just won’t come in. Lashley gets distracted, allowing Rollins to attack. Rollins and Ambrose then hit their old Shield double-team moves on Lashley. They knock him from the ring, so they go out, grab the steel steps, and hit Bobby with them.

Rollins gets into the ring and invites Dean to join him. The Champion does and they just throw wild hands. Rollins wanted the Buckle Bomb but Dean reversed it. Ambrose looked for a suplex but Rollins reversed with a Falcon’s Arrow. However Lio Rush broke up the pin attempt, then looks like he just realised what he did. Rollins chases Rush, grabs holds of him, then Ambrose kicks Lio from the ring. Rollins connects with a big superkick to Ambrose, but Lashley throws him from the ring.

Lashley makes the pin on Ambrose but only scores a two count. Ambrose looks for Dirty Deeds on Lashley but Seth comes off the springboard to knock Dean from the ring. Rollins then knocks Lashley down, goes up top, and hits the Frog Splash. As he looked for the pin though, Ambrose throws him out and pins Lashley himself for a two count. Ambrose is frustrated.

Dean takes to the top rope but Rollins jumps up and grabs hold of him. Lashley then grabs Seth onto his shoulders and Ambrose clotheslines Seth off – however Rollins landed on his feet! Rollins hits Lashley with a superkick, then takes out Ambrose. Lashley recovers, meanwhile Seth is knocked from the ring by Lio Rush. Lashley hits Ambrose with a massive spear for the win!

Winner and New Intercontinental Champion: Bobby Lashley

Lashley and Rush celebrate the huge win after the fact.

Up next, A Moment of Bliss with Paul Heyman. We see a stagehand backstage, bringing a latte to Alexa Bliss but she doesn’t open the door. The hand walks into the room but Alexa has no shirt on – she’s just covering herself with one. She starts to get annoyed so he leaves. I guess WWE is attempting to bring back some sex appeal to garner ratings.

We take another look at the movie Glass – which has been mentioned every half hour at least.

*Commercial Break*

Alexa Bliss makes her entrance. Bliss mentions that Mr. McMahon announced their would be Women’s Tag Team Championships coming. Bliss knows when they’re coming, then announces that three teams from RAW and three teams from Smackdown Live will compete in the Elimination Chamber, with the winning team will walk out as the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions! Bliss reveals the championships and they are quite nice.

Bliss now goes to welcome Paul Heyman, but he cuts her off. Heyman kisses her hand and says this is Bliss’ “moment of bliss” because she gets to interview the advocate for Brock Lesnar. She asks about Lesnar having to face someone from the Fatal 4-Way match. Heyman says Lesnar will clean out the heavyweight division except one. Will it be John Cena? Suplex City was built on the mangled carcass of the pontiff of Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect. Will it be Drew McIntyre? Heyman would be a liar if he didn’t admit he’s had his eye on McIntyre. Everyone should have their eyes on McIntyre. That competitor is almost guaranteed to be the Universal Heavyweight Champion… just not now. Will it be Baron Corbin? Corbin isn’t the most popular guy in the WWE Universe, but the proactive never-will-be-General-Manager…

Super randomly, Otis Dozovic of NXT tag team Heavy Machinery, makes his way to the stage and starts grunting and saying weird things, distracting Bliss and Heyman. He seemingly wants the tag team titles, regardless that they are for women. His partner, Tucker Knight, then comes out and apologizes and takes him away as he yells something about “pretty lady”. Weirder still, that’s the end of the segment, as the camera cuts to the ring, where the ring announcer announces the Fatal 4-Way match is up next.

*Commercial Break*

Finn Balor Vs. John Cena Vs. Drew McIntyre Vs. Baron Corbin

The Winner Faces Brock Lesnar At The Royal Rumble

The bell rings and Corbin attacks Balor, while McIntyre and Cena brawl to the outside. Balor hits Corbin with an enziguiri, then goes to the top rope – looking for Coup de Grace. Corbin grabs him up there for a chokeslame backbreaker and Balor rolls from the ring as Cena and McIntyre come back in.

*Commercial Break*

Corbin and Cena are going back and forth when we return. Cena dodges Corbin stampeding towards him, and the former GM hits the ring post and falls to the floor. McIntyre comes in and grabs Cena and looks to throw him into Finn on the apron, but Balor avoids the falling Cena.

Balor then knocks McIntyre from the ring and looks to follow-up with a soccer kick but Corbin elbows him off the apron. Cena is back and kicks Corbin, before hitting a tornado DDT. McIntyre breaks-up the pin and talks trash to Cena, who then connects with the two shoulder tackles, five knuckle shuffle, then the AA and makes the pin but Corbin breaks it up!

Corbin punches Cena around and looks to suplex him but then Balor returns to help Cena hit a double suplex. Cena and Finn form a temporary alliance to beat on Corbin in the corner. They climb the ropes and grab Corbin for a superplex, but suddenly McIntyre comes back and powerbombs Cena and Balor! Corbin, still on the top turnbuckle, grabs McIntyre by the hair but the Scot turns and clocks him. McIntyre grabs him for a superplex but Corbin knocks his feet out and he falls into the tree of woe. Corbin smiles smugly for a second, but then McIntyre sits up, grabs him by the neck, and throws him across the ring!

*Commercial Break*

Back live, just in time to see Corbin catch Finn Balor with the End of Days but Drew breaks the pin attempt. Corbin and McIntyre have a staredown, then trade hands. McIntyre floors him with a Glasglow Kiss, while John Cena climbs the turnbuckles in the background. Cena leaps for a Fameasser but McIntyre catches him mid-air with a powerbomb for a near-fall. All four men are down.

McIntyre and Corbin beat on the babyfaces in stereo, but then the babyfaces start firing back. McIntyre is tossed from the ring by Cena, while Balor hits Corbin with a slingblade. Balor goes up top but Cena meets him there and gets him on his shoulders, looking for a Super AA and lands it! Corbin runs in and tosses Cena from the ring, makes the pin on Balor, but the Irishman kicks out!

Corbin leaves the ring and grabs a steel chair, which he uses to beat Cena and McIntyre around ringside. Corbin gets into the ring with the chair and stalks Balor. He winds-up the shot and cracks it over the back of Finn, then again. He goes for the pin but Cena breaks it up. Corbin lifts the chair again and swings at Cena, misses, and gets hit with the AA! Claymore Kick to Cena from McIntyre! Finn then hits McIntyre with a tilt-a-whirl-DDT. Balor goes to the top rope and hits John Cena with the Coup de Grace for the win!

Winner: Finn Balor

Finn Balor will face Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble for the WWE Universal Championship!

We see replays of the finish before Cena grabs a microphone. He says where he is from you fight for an opportunity and respect. He says earlier tonight Balor claimed Vince doesn’t believe in him, but the fans do. Well, he’s earned one more believer tonight and Cena shakes his hand. Cena then announces Finn as the challenger for the Universal Championship.
