Becky Lynch has been out of action due to a broken nose and severe concussion thanks to stiff punch from Nia Jax during a brawl that took place as the SmackDown Live roster invaded Raw the week of Survivor Series. This injury pulled Lynch from the much-hyped Lynch vs Ronda Rousey match, but they were able to find a replacement. Still, Lynch was absent from SmackDown Live last week.
AJ Styles is currently going through a stage in his career where he’s looking onward at the next contract he’s likely to sign. He is currently batting around new deal with WWE and he has some demands. Only time will tell if WWE will meet Syles’ contractual requests but with rumors bubbling that The Elite could be working on a new pro wrestling company, it’s likely that WWE will continue to lock as many talents down as possible.
Neither Lynch or Styles worked Survivor Series as their matches were taken away from them on the go-home episode of SmackDown Live for the Staples Center event. But now it appears their time off of television is over.
It was noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that both Becky Lynch and AJ Styles will be on SmackDown Live this week and this is much-needed addition. Lynch is working hard for medical clearance and hopefully, that will come sooner than later.
“Well that’s good, that should help. People have been waiting for Becky Lynch to be back on that show,” Dave Meltzer noted. Indeed they have, but how will a non-wrestling SmackDown Women’s Champion be able to really move the numbers?
As this situation progresses it might be uncomfortable to get excited about a future match for Lynch against anyone because she’s still not cleared to compete from her concussion yet and WWE’s concussion protocol is a very touchy subject. But at least The Man will be on her show this week so she can participate in whatever kind of angle WWE is willing to let her do.
