Rey Mysterio is undoubtedly one of the most popular Superstars in WWE history. His character and attitude are positive, beloved by kids from every country across the globe. That said, Mysterio hasn’t appeared prominently in any cartoons WWE has created over the years.
During a recent mailbag for PWInsider, Mike Johnson discussed an ongoing rumor concerning the idea for an animated series centered around the iconic luchador. A fan asked if Johnson had heard these rumors, and if they’re true, why did the series never happen? Johnson would obviously reply to this.
According to the writer, WWE did intend to create an animated series on Mysterio. Titled ‘Hanging’ which would take place in the 619 (San Diego, CA). The series would cast Mysterio and multiple other WWE Superstars as school children.
This idea never passed the pitch stage and Johnson doesn’t believe an animation for the idea was ever created but confirmed the rumor had been true.
The show’s concept may sound similar to many fans, as WWE has created a show known as Camp WWE on the WWE Network. This stars many WWE Superstars in an animated series format. The stars are kids in the show- besides Vince McMahon himself, obviously.
