WWE Crown Jewel is going to feature a World Cup Tournament which is supposed to determine who the best in the world is. WWE has a lot of options about how to book this tournament in Saudi Arabia and a couple choices might even go on to affect the long-term future of SmackDown Live and Raw.
Shane McMahon told his Superstars that they will be fired if they lose in the finals of the World Cup Tournament which was an interesting thing for a babyface Commissioner to say. Therefore, we can only assume that SmackDown is losing a top Superstar if they can’t bring home the W for the blue brand. After all, he can’t stand to hear his sister Stephanie McMahon brag about Raw winning the tournament.
Bryan Alvarez commented about this situation on Wrestling Observer Live where he painted 3 interesting and very plausible outcomes for this booking scenario.

“First off, yeah they could fire somebody and bring them to Raw. But I mean they could also just bring someone up from NXT. If they need someone to be slotted into a certain position they could get somebody. I don’t think you need to fire somebody from SmackDown when in less than a year SmackDown basically needs to be the A-Show.”
“Now I know that’s a long way from now and they can always do the draft and move over whoever they need to move over to SmackDown but there’s 3 possibilities here. Possibility number 1 is that SmackDown is going to win because if you look at the Survivor Series card it’s going to be a bunch of Raw vs SmackDown matches and I think there’s virtually 0 chance that Becky Lynch is going to beat Ronda Rousey. I look at Braun Strowman and AJ Styles and unless Strowman runs really fast and bonks himself on the ring post and AJ gets in and wins via count-out I just can’t see Vince McMahon letting AJ Styles beat Braun Strowman.”
“That’s 2 championship matches won by the Raw side so you gotta throw SmackDown a bone. They’re gonna win the best in the world tournament.”
“The 3rd possibility which I believe someone on the board mentioned is that Shane McMahon is going to fire somebody and that’s who he’s going to wrestle at WrestleMania. The last thing I need is to see is Shane McMahon wrestling at WrestleMania but he’s Shane McMahon — you know there’s a good chance he’s probably going to be wrestling at WrestleMania and so that was their conclusion. That’s what’s going on here.”

Only time will tell how WWE ends up booking the World Cup Tournament at WWE Crown Jewel. But with McMahon’s announcement that he will fire whoever loses to a Raw Superstar makes you have to wonder why he would make that kind of threat in the first place unless there are plans for someone to get handed their walking papers following WWE Crown Jewel.
