The Mae Young Classic is an exciting tournament for fans of women’s pro wrestling. Last year WWE signed a lot of names that they brought in last year for the tournament and with this year’s tourney, the question might be if WWE intends on giving out more contracts.
Bryan Alvarez said on Wrestling Observer Live that WWE might not need to pull in more talent this year because last year’s series might have done enough to help fill the roster.
“Hopefully a lot of these women do get signed but the reality is last year they were building up their divisions for this new Women’s Revolution so they needed a whole bunch of bodies. Granted, there are probably only 9 women on each roster that they do anything with and there probably should be more if you’re going to have a real women’s division. But I don’t know if you’re going to see 9 of the women from the Mae Young Classic get signed, but hey I could be wrong.”
Only time will tell what WWE decides to do because they have the money to sign every woman they can and start an all-women pro wrestling company all on its own.
But at this time it looks like the women who got hired off of last year’s MYC might have been in the right place at the right time. Then again, you’ve got a few names from this year’s show that could do great things in WWE and one, like Kaitlyn, already has.
