According to Combate, Santiago Ponzinibbio vs Neil Magny is set for the main event of UFC Buenos Aires.

The welterweight showdown will be contested in Ponzinibbio’s home country, as he attempts to move one step closer to a title shot. Santiago was scheduled to take on Kamaru Usman earlier this year in Chile but had to pull out due to injury, and now, he’ll get another shot to main event in South America against the always tough Magny.

The Argentine fighter is currently riding a six-fight win streak, although his last fight was way back in December when he overcame the challenge of Mike Perry.

Magny, on the other hand, has won six of his last eight bouts and is riding a two fight win streak. His last triumph came at UFC Liverpool in May, when he decimated short notice replacement Craig White, but he was actually scheduled to compete at UFC Sao Paulo against Alex Oliveira. Alas, that fight has now been cancelled.

This is an intriguing fight in every sense of the word with both men being set to benefit greatly from a victory, with Ponzinibbio being in an especially good position. If he can finish Magny in his home country, off the back of wins over Perry and Gunnar Nelson, then he could be just one more win away from a shot at the Welterweight Championship.

The event is scheduled for November 17th, but both men will be keeping an eye on what happens in a few short weeks when Tyron Woodley puts his title on the line in Dallas against the man who headlined the aforementioned Liverpool card that Magny was on – Darren Till.
