On Raw, Seth Rollins hosted an open challenge for his Intercontinental Championship. He then proceeded to defeat Mojo Rawley in an absolutely thrilling contest.

If this is to continue, it could do wonders for the roster. It could be what the AJ Styles Open Challenge should have been. In a roster as stacked as this, an open challenge could showcase some of the dudes who don’t get a lot of spotlight.

Here are some guys who should totally challenge Seth Rollins.

In case you’ve forgotten, Zack Ryder is actually a really good wrestler. He has a four-star match at Wrestlemania. He’s just one title away from achieving a Grand Slam.

I’m of the mindset that Ryder and Rawley had a seriously good match at the Clash of Champions kick-off show. Match was absolutely vicious. Both Ryder and Rawley looked really good in that match, and it’s a shame that there was no real follow-up for either man.

Ryder is one of those guys who can get the crowd behind him easily, and he’s surprisingly athletic. He does a 450 splash, for goodness’ sake. I feel like he and Seth Rollins could absolutely tear the house down.

baron corbin

I’m really a huge Baron Corbin fan, so I am a little biased when it comes to the Lone Wolf. Some may say that he’s a bad wrestler, but he’s had good to great matches with tons of people, from Tye Dillinger, Jack Swagger, Kalisto, Bobby Roode, The Miz, Dean Ambrose, AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Kevin Owens, and Randy Orton. He’s not bad.

I feel that Baron Corbin and Seth Rollins could put on a great match for the Intercontinental Championship. Corbin is surprisingly agile, and Rollins is a pretty strong dude, so they could mesh really well. A strong showing could put Corbin on the right track and solidify his spot on the roster.

mike kanellis

Mike Kanellis hasn’t really had a chance to show off what he can do in the ring. He arrived on Smackdown looking kind of chubby, and then disappeared to get unaddicted to painkillers. He looks absolutely shredded right now, though, I gotta give him that.

Those who’ve seen “The Miracle” Mike Bennett’s work know that he’s not a bad wrestler. A bit on the average side, yeah. It’s his character work where he truly excels. Still, he can go between the ropes.

While a match between Mike Kanellis and Seth Rollins probably wouldn’t be a barn-burner, it would be a good way to formally reintroduce Kanellis to the audience and let them know what he’s capable of.

chad gable

I remember when Jason Jordan got kidnapped to Raw, and Gable was kinda doing his own thing. I felt that if he was handled well, he could have been a star. He’s a character (he gave us Sami Wow-Wow). At the same time, he is unbelievably gifted as an athlete. Check out his match against Rusev to get an idea of what’s up. Heck, he’s managed to have good matches with Jinder Mahal recently, and not everyone can say that.

Right now, it would be cool for Chad Gable to answer the open challenge of Seth Rollins. It’s the story of someone trying to find their place on the roster, and doing whatever they can to make a name for themselves.

A match between the two could be an absolute clinic of grace and athleticism. Out of all the people who could answer the Open Challenge, it’s Gable I want to see most.
