It was previously reported Tuesday night by Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated that Rey Mysterio was backstage at this week’s SmackDwon tapings in Los Angeles, California and was working out the details for a match against John Cena for this year’s WrestleMania 34 event. It turned out that Mysterio actually wasn’t backstage at the event at all and there is no plans for Mysterio vs. Cena at WrestleMania.

In an update, Mike Johnson reported on the recent PWInsider Elite Audio that the ramblings backstage this past Tuesday was that Mysterio actually expected in Los Angeles.

“I did hear over the course of the day that Rey was expected in Los Angeles. So it was possible he was going to go but didn’t go or it was possible that the rumor was unfounded to begin with. There is a reason we didn’t write about it yesterday. We couldn’t prove it was correct.”

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest issue of Wrestling Observer Radio that Mysterio has not signed a deal with WWE yet and he’s waiting to meet with Triple H to work out the details. If Johnson’s claims above are correct and Rey was supposed to be at SmackDown, there could have actually been a meeting scheduled and for whatever reason Mysterio was unable to make it.
