Drew Gulak
While this may seem an odd choice, I sort of know why I picked Gulak. He’s one of the most memorable characters in a division that is sorely lacking in them. It’s always best to build around a character who connects rather than a super-athlete who doesn’t. Look at Cena, The Rock, Hulk Hogan, et al. That’s not a knock against them, as they most certainly could wrestle; it’s just they were larger-than-life characters first.
Obviously Gulak wouldn’t hold the title for a very long time. However, his character makes him uniquely suited to act as a transitional champion between faces. Have him talk about how he’s the best, and how that now he’s the champion, he’s gonna ban flips or whatever. Just don’t make him follow through on his threats. His only purpose is to run his mouth.
No one is going to boycott the product if Drew Gulak is only Cruiserweight Champion for less 50 days. No one is going to complain that his run will damage the title. He’ll just drop it and go back to campaigning.
