Dinner with the King Recap – Battleground Analysis, Talking Smack’s Cancellation, Return to WWE in 2001, More!

Last week’s show focused on Lawler’s time away from WWE in 2001. During that time he worked for a couple of other promotions, one being theWWA in Australia. He worked with other Superstars like Bret Hart, Booker T and Jeff Jarrett during his time there. One thing he specifically remembers about Australia is Bret Hart introducing him to a brothel.

He says that when he returned to WWE after a multi-month layoff it was a fantastic feeling. When he returned that night security guards actually dragged Paul Heyman kicking and screaming out of the announce position after McMahon fired him, and Jim Ross had the classic line, “All is right with the World”. That was a very memorable night for Lawler.

Moore asks Lawler if returning to the company at that time was awkward at all. Lawler says that it wasn’t awkward at all, and McMahon has always been great with those types of situations. More recently when Lawler was arrested and was forced to stay away from the company for a couple of weeks, he went into McMahon’s office upon his return to explain himself and McMahon simply said, ‘Shi* happens’ and they went on about their business.

That sums up today’s episode of Dinner with the King. You can listen to the show yourself anytime here, and I’ll catch ya next week for another recap!
