He points out that WWE is producing so many PPVs right now and sometimes that results in a Flag match between John Cena and Rusev, even when these guys have already worked a plethora of matches with each other. They certainly work well together, but it was a foregone conclusion that Cena was going to win this match so their wasn’t really any surprise to the finish.
He thought the other matches on the show were all fine, and he specifically thought Natalya did a good job on Talking Smack by showing the heel side of her character. Lawler hadn’t interviewed Natalya in her heel character before, so he thought it was interesting to see that side of her.
Lawler says he’d love to call a match featuring Mike and Maria Kanellis because he thinks that gimmick is a gold mine for witty jokes. He couldn’t believe that Kanellis lost his match to Sami Zayn on Sunday, with it being only his second match in WWE.
Lawler informs that he always hated the name Curtis Axel. He feels that Axel should have been a ‘Henning’ like his grandfather and father before him, and the company should have capitalized on the fact that he was the son of Kurt Henning. He feels like Axel hasn’t been properly used in WWE but he also admits that Axel hasn’t stepped up to the plate and taken advantage of any specific opportunity in the company either.
