Harloff feels that today’s performers aren’t given the freedom to perform in the same way that Piper and stars of that generation were. WWE seems to have a harness on their wrestlers, and that ultimately limits the talents’ ability to be unique and get over.
He thinks that there is a lot of talent in WWE today, and it’s some of the best wrestling that he’s ever seen. However, he thinks the overly-scripted nature of today’s shows are hampering the ability of the talents. When he wrote for the company, talents were given bullet points that they had to hit and they were allowed to freestyle around those points. That doesn’t appear to be the case today.
Russo says that harnessing your talent like that screams ‘a lack of trust’, and that’s an unfortunate thing. When Russo wrote for the company Vince McMahon trusted the people around him to do their job, but in his old age McMahon seems to have developed a lack of trust for all of his employees, and it appears that he wants control over every aspect of WWE programming.
That sums up today’s episode of Vince Russo’s The Brand. You can listen to the show yourself anytime here, and I’ll catch ya tomorrow for another recap!
