Michaels credits Foley’s subtle character nuances throughout this match such as pulling out his hair and stabbing himself in an attempt to regain feeling in his hand. Michaels says that when your competitor is clearly all-in to a specific match, it raises your own competitive level as well and that often leads to great matches.
Michaels doesn’t mean to be critical of today’s talents, but he feels that no talent should ever rest on their laurels. Whenever you think you’ve reached the pinnacle of your career, take things a step further. Michaels points out that he was already the WWE Champion when he started to incorporate the foot stomp before his Sweet Chin Music finisher. That foot stomp soon became one of Michaels’ trademarks.
