Russo is joined on today’s show by his co-host Jeff Lane and Glenn Gilbertti (Disco Inferno).
Russo opens today’s show by discussing the main event from last week’s RAW, when Seth Rollins, Finn Balor and The Miz squared off in a triple threat match. Russo says that he’s not a fan of Balor, he likes Rollins but Rollins doesn’t have a character, and The Miz is in a different league all together. He says The Miz would have been a mega star during the attitude era.
Russo says that all three guys worked hard during this match, but they didn’t sell anything. Gilbertti says they don’t sell because they don’t know how to sell. He says that Owens, Balor and others are all perfectly capable of selling a move and executing their spots, but they run into issues when they try to tell a consistent story in the ring. For example, If your selling your knee after one spot, you should know that you can’t do a dropkick right after.
Gilbertti adds that Independent wrestlers love to get their spots in, and now they’ve started to incorporate MMA moves into their offence. Unfortunately, they don’t sell these moves to the degree that they need to and because of this, a whole new generation of wrestling fans have been pre-condtioned to believe that certain devastating moves don’t even hurt because the talents don’t sell them.
