Taz opens today’s show by discussing last night’s episode of Smackdown Live.
He says that Kevin Owens’ new merchandise was somewhat of an ‘angle alert’ in his opinion. WWE spent a lot of money developing Owens’ new ‘Face of America’ gimmick and merchandise, and Taz feels that was a sign that Owens was going to re-capture his United States Championship last night. Nonetheless, he thought Owens and Jericho had a good main event match.
Taz liked that Jinder Mahal had a lot of television time last night, and he liked the interaction between Mahal and Shane McMahon. He thought it was strange that Randy Orton didn’t appear on the show, but he points out that WWE talents get occasional days off now, and for the talent’s sake, Taz is happy about that.
A listener calls into the show and says that WWE is contradicting themselves when they say that wins/losses matter on live programming, and then someone like Jinder Mahal gets a major push after having a terrible recent record. Taz says that he understands the caller’s point, and admits that WWE talks out of both sides of their mouth on occasion. However, if they feel that something needs to happen creatively, they aren’t going to look at a performer’s win/loss record before making that decision.
Another listener calls into the show and asks Taz what he thinks about the red leather on the Universal Championship. Taz says that colour never bothered him at all, and he points out that Titles have had different coloured leathers in the past as well.
