Ross opens today’s show by bringing on Jason Powell to review last Sunday’s Payback PPV.
Powell thought Payback was a solid show that over-achieved based on the buildup to the event. Ross agrees and says the buildup wasn’t as strong as you would have necessarily hoped, but a weak build makes it easier for a show to over-deliver and he thought this Sunday’s PPV was a great example of that.
Ross thought WWE did a good job of protecting Samoa Joe while he suffered a clean defeat at the hands of Seth Rollins. Powell says that he would have preferred that WWE kept Joe undefeated so he’d be held on a pedestal for future match-ups against the top of the RAW roster such as Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman.
Ross says he had a gut feeling that Chris Jericho was going to win the United States Title on Sunday, even thought the wide majority of people felt he would lose and ride off into the sunset to tour with his band Fozzy. Ross says that Jericho is a treasure who always reinvents himself and fails to rest on his morales.
