The Taz Show Recap – 20th Anniversary of ECW’s ‘Barely Legal’, Styles’ Success A Big Surprise, King of the Ring Returning? More!

Taz informs that today is the 20th anniversary of ECW’s original ‘Barely Legal’ PPV.

Taz mentions that he designed the poster for that event, but putting himself and Sabu front and centre on the poster wasn’t his idea. He says that there was no agenda on his end, and he simply did what Paul Heyman asked him to do. His match with Sabu was a huge grudge match, which paid off a full year of building without any physical contact with one another.

He admits that Raven and Terry Funk might have an argument that they should have been the main focus of this PPV, and it’s hard for him to argue with that given that they fought for the ECW Championship on the show, and they headlined the show as well.

Taz says that there was loads of pressure backstage at this event. It was a live event which was a new element for a lot of the ECW wrestlers, and they weren’t accustomed to the timing restrictions of PPVs. ECW was also not well liked by a lot of people in the wrestling business, so there was some pressure to prove all of those people wrong.

He says that the expectations were so high for his match with Sabu, that there was literally nothing they could do to live up to it. They had a very physical match which they’re both very proud of, but he doesn’t believe that this was one of their better matches.
