Taz opens today’s show speaking about the news that John Cena will be inducting Kurt Angle into the WWE Hall of Fame this year. Taz thinks that’s very cool, but he didn’t know that Angle and Cena were close friends like that. Taz says Cena is a well spoken guy that is good at putting guys over, and it won’t be hard for him to put over Angle given everything that Angle has accomplished in his career.
JBL sent out some tweets last night agreeing with Taz’s opinion on Ranallo missing Smackdown Live last week. The tweets have since been deleted and Taz thinks that’s interesting. Taz says that for years in wrestling, play-by-play guys have been the brunt of the colour commentary guy’s jokes. We’ve seen JBL go after Ranallo on air several times and these tweets may have just been a rib.
When Taz began his career as a colour commentator he took this approach for a while but he soon grew tired of it. He realized that he shouldn’t be making fun of his partner, rather he should be trying to put the play-by-play guy over so he can get over in return.
Taz also says that when you’re new in the business you have to go through somewhat of an initiation. He says that nobody dealt with more of that than Michael Cole when he initially broke into the business. Ranallo actually retweeted a tweet which listed Ranallo as the best broadcaster in the business and this might have legitimately angered JBL. When Ranallo failed to show up for Smackdown last week JBL obviously took offence to his absence, unless JBL was working us with those tweets last night.
