Russo begins today’s show by sending his condolences to the family and friends of ‘The Outlaw’ Ron Bass. Russo says that Bass was a typical wrestling heel that played his character well. Bass looked like a wrestler and was a big draw during the height of his career.
Russo mentions that RAW viewership was up slightly this week, and he believes that Goldberg had a lot to do with that. He thinks Goldberg has brought a lot to the WWE product since his return. In addition to drawing more eyeballs and viewers to RAW, Goldberg came back revitalized (perhaps because of his young son). Russo gives Goldberg a lot of credit, and he gives WWE a lot of credit as well for bringing him back.
Russo says he heard a Sami Zayn interview recently where Zayn was asked about his opinion on part time stars returning for big shows like WrestleMania. In the interview, Zayn answered by saying that he’d rather see the big stars from past generations mix it up with the stars from today’s generation. Zayn suggested instead of Lesnar fighting Goldberg, Lesnar could have faced Owens and he could have faced Goldberg.
Russo was fascinated by this response from Zayn and in his opinion, Zayn showed his ignorance by answering the question that way. Does Zayn really believe that Owens is at Lesnar’s level, or that he is on Goldberg’s level?
