Heath Slater: Your Next Shawn Michaels
by Bobby Quinn
Yes stop rubbing your eyes, you did read that column title correctly. I really just cant reiterate enough how impressed I am with Heath Slater on every level of his wrestling game. Heath Slater oozes a charisma I just haven't seen in many wrestlers at all. As I was watching Slater wrestle R-Truth on Raw last night, I kept wondering, who does he remind me of? The only wrestler that came to mind was an early heel Shawn Michaels.
You remember the early heel Shawn Michaels don't you? Michaels had just broken off from his Rockers tag team partner and was so cocky and arrogant it was hard to tell him otherwise. It didn't hurt that Michaels was the most talented in ring performer of the business, he had it all and you really wanted to hate him for it. I get very similar feelings for Heath Slater when I watch him, he is damn entertaining and it's very hard to be bored when he's on TV. I went to a Smackdown event here in Omaha last year and they where doing a NXT taping before the show. When I saw Heath Slater wrestle I said that guys going to be the next guy, just watch.
Not a lot of guys come along like Slater, when I think of the NXT group I can't think of one guy that matched him in the charisma department, which is obviously one of the most important things you can have when it comes to creating a true star. I think back to something Triple H said in an interview and that was you can't teach charisma. If the WWE plays their cards right Slater is definitely big money for that company.
It's hard to say how Slaters career will actually play out, as of right now I think the WWE is doing a superb job of handling his gimmick. I really loved Slater doing the legends angle, even if he was losing he still got the rub from the legends and that could only help him. The WWE did a fantastic job with CM Punk last summer building him up to be a huge star and I hope they continue that trend with Slater, one thing I hope they don't do is try to make him a white meat baby face. Heath is a born heel and if he adds a few extra pounds to his frame I think he could be World Champion. Right now a lengthy intercontinental title reign doesn't seem to far fetched. I am begging the WWE not to drop the ball with the, as he would put it - "ooooneee maaaan baaaaand."

a challenge to name one guy to match slaters charisma on NXT you say? i'll name three. Wade Barrett,(IC champ) Daniel Bryan (US and WHC) and Ryback. To quote the IC champion Miz who'd destroy him, really? he cant even beat R-Truth. Way too soon to compare him to one of the BEST if not the BEST to eve...

I think the biggest draw back Slater will face in his career will be his accent but at the same time it does seperate him from the pack and hey lets face it, piper, flair, rhodes, all great mic workers but I wouldn't want to be working the audio/subtiles for the deaf whenever they did a promo. I too...

Michael tomczak I appreciate your opinion I really wasn't just trying to make an attention grabbing article I've been a fan of Slaters since day one, I think he just has something intangible when hes on TV. I stand by my column but I do see your points of view.

@bobbyquinn..shawn michaels is a legend is this business because of his in ring abiliity. Your mic skills do not matter for shit if you dont have the ring skills to back them up so do not compare Heath Slater to a legend such as Shawn Michaels in any way. Heath Slater is like Brodus Clay..they bot...
