Does the WWE Champion Have No Clout?
by Zack Gardner
To be frank, every week, month on WWE, the championship has NOT been in the main event BECAUSE John Cena isn't in it. It’s really starting to piss me off and make me wonder about the WWE and its writers views on champions. Ya he puts asses in the seats (kid/women asses) but when you have a SUPERSTAR who outshines the company champion, what is the PURPOSE of the gold?
We have had that for a long while now. Honestly, CM Punk has been a great champion but has been overshadowed by Mr. Cena CONSTANTLY. It reminds me of back in the late 80s/early 90s when WWE/F had its company face in the vision of one Hulk Hogan. If the belt wasn’t on him then it would be on his “arch nemesis”; however when it came to Faces, the strap would be on the likes of Macho Man, Warrior and Bret Hart but Hogan would still be in the main event at times. My argument is in invalid here because Hogan helped make the WWE; Hell, Wrestling what it IS today. It made sense to have "Face" Macho Man turn Heel to go against Hogan at WrestleMania V, it made even more sense to have Warrior warm up the mats before a Hogan match (As repetitive as Hogan is as a wrestler, Warrior couldn’t carry a match on his own) but then there was Bret Hart who worked his way up the food chain and beat the man (Flair) to prove he was WWEs new generation champion. In 1993, Hogan warmed up the crowd for Hart only then to beat the man who pinned Bret in like 5 seconds with his leg drop. That's not even sugar coating it, it was embarassing!
Imagine if Punk and Big Show had a match and then Punk loses, ONLY to have Cena come out; Attitude Adjustment Big Show and win the title in 8 seconds. It would be the biggest “Screw You” to Punk as it was to Bret Hart.
Now the angle for Punk at the moment is RESPECT and rightfully so.
Let me pull out my stat book of Punks championship matches and Cena Main Event Matches in 2011/2012:
Survivor Series 2011 to WrestleMania 28 was of course the "Rock and Cena Show" so it made sense to have that be the focus, HOWEVER at the Elimination Chamber 2012: The WWE Championship Chamber match was a MID CARD MATCH with Kane vs Cena for the 3rd time being the main event!
Then came Extreme Rules 2012: Punk vs Jericho II warms it up for Brock vs Cena. Again, another “Legend” feuds with Cena for Main Event status. Short lived.
Over the Limit 2012: Punk vs Bryan finally for WWE Gold is only a crowd warm up for the Cena vs Laurinatis debacle.
No Way Out 2012: Punk vs Bryan vs Kane… Main Event? NO! Cena vs Big Show part 1000 in a cage match. Ooooh
And lastly Money in the Bank 2012: Punk vs Bryan II is in the middle of the show while the Raw Ladder match is LAST!!!
It’s like, who cares for the championship?? Well, until Cena has it again.
As a young fan I wanted to be the WWE Champion! I didn’t want to be Bret Hart or Shawn Michaels or Steve Austin, I wanted to be WWE Champion (with certain traits of course) Now it’s the WWE showing the “Universe”, don’t be a champion, be a star; Be John Cena and cheer for the other guy.
Well that other guy is the World WRESTLING Champion… The Best in the World…

Your quote that I think perfectly states your blog, "It’s like, who cares for the championship?? Well, until Cena has it again. "

I agree with everything said. I could MAYBE see Cena being in the main event for WM and Extreme Rules but all the others should have seen Punk in the main event. It has nothing to do with me or other people being Punk fans, if Del Rio or Miz or Mysterio were champion I would feel the same way. WWE i...
